There is no denying it, we are in the grips of a major bold eyebrow trend at the moment. We all want them, but for those of us that have lived through the “less is more” movement of the 1990’s and now suffer from thin, over-plucked brows, this may not be the easiest trend to follow. But don’t give up hope! It is very possible to achieve the look with a few make-up tricks, either temporary or semi-permanent.
First things first, no matter what eyebrow product you use, the key to achieving great brows is to have them shaped. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, visit your local salon and have them waxed or threaded. It’s a lot easier to maintain your brows once they have been done by a pro. Just remember, don’t thin them out, bold is better!
Once you’re happy with the shape, any patchy or thin areas can be filled with make-up. Here is a quick overview of the most common techniques.
Pencils and powder
Eyebrow pencils are the most common brow make-up. Many women like that they’re convenient to carry around and long-lasting. A brow pencil is ideal for defining arches but can produce some harsh lines so it’s important to blend them. You can do this using brow powder to soften the lines.
When opting for a pencil, choose one that has a very fine tip in order to create small strokes that mimic actual hairs. An angled brush and powder will give a slightly heavier look, which you can combat by working the product into your brows with an eyebrow brush.
Gel
Brow gel is a miracle! For thinner brows, gel can plump up the texture, adding volume and making them appear thicker. Tinted brow gels work wonders on disguising grey hairs and adding depth to individual hairs that are sometimes too light to be seen.
An eyebrow gel typically comes in a tube with a brush that looks similar to what you’d find in a mascara product. The tube itself contains a gel (both coloured and clear gels are available) that is then applied to the brows.
If incorporating this new make-up routine into your already jam packed morning seems daunting, semi-permanent make-up is for you.
Semi-permanent eyebrow make-up
Epibrow or microblading is a new innovative semi-permanent make-up technique that is becoming very popular. Epibrow gives the effect of ultra-fine, delicate hair strokes that blend flawlessly into your own natural brow. So even if you have thin, overly plucked, patchy or no eyebrows at all, Epibrow will restore your natural shape. The most amazing part is that the results last between 12 and 18 months and you will have fabulous brows whether your sun bathing or working out at the gym.
